The Mechanics Cap in US Green is a hard-wearing baseball cap based on the headwear worn by mechanics and flight crew in the United States Air Force during WW2. Although these caps were intended as a functional means to keep the sun out of mechanics’ eyes whilst preparing aircraft for take-off, their use quickly extended to other parts of the Air Force due to their practical nature.
They are made from 100% HBT (cotton herringbone twill) which, in 1938, was introduced by the US Army as a replacement for American blue denim work uniforms. By 1941, however, it had become the standard dress for all types of military activity, including combat.
